PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS The educational objective of the University Honors Program is to provide a challenging, enriching, and outstanding education for superb students. The key to a superb education is linking outstanding students with the finest faculty to maximize one-on-one learning experiences that emphasize creativity and discovery in small courses (15 to 25 students) and in the senior year project. Program requirements for Track 1 and Track 2 of the University Honors Program are explained in detail here: The Track 1 program for new, first-year students focuses on an academic core that provides breadth and perspectives in the four interdisciplinary Honors seminars that fulfill seven of eleven University general education requirements and in-depth experiences in the major through two Honors courses and a senior year creative activity/thesis. The Track 2 program focuses primarily on Honors experiences in the major through three to four upper division Honors courses and the senior year creativity activity. Guidelines for Continuation in the Program To continue in the University Honors Program, students must make satisfactory progress toward fulfilling the requirements of the program. The conditions for satisfactory progress include a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) and timely completion of the Honors Core Curriculum. Satisfactory Cumulative Grade Point Average All Honors students must achieve a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 at the end of the first year and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 to remain in the program. Satisfactory Progress in Completing the Honors Core Curriculum (Track 1 students)
1. Students must complete HONR192 by no later than the end of their first year. Satisfactory Progress in Completing the Honors Departmental Requirements (Track 2 students) 1. Discipline Honors Scholars will need to complete the honors courses in their major by the time they graduate. Satisfactory Completion of the Senior Honors Thesis by Graduation For information pertaining to the Senior Honors Thesis,click here. Graduation as an Honors Scholar Students who complete the Honors requirements and achieve at least a 3.5 grade point average will earn the prestigious designation of University Honors Scholar (Track 1) or Discipline Honors Scholar (Track 2). Scholars will be recognized at graduation by the Honors Program and during their colleges' commencement ceremonies. The Honors designation will also appear on their diplomas and transcripts. |
