HONORS THESIS

Graduation as a University Honors Scholar requires at least a 3.50 GPA by graduation, completion of the honors core curriculum, including the senior honors seminar, and completion of an honors thesis or an approved alternative.

The Honors thesis is a senior year activity that presents students with a wonderful opportunity to experience first-hand the creative processes that are fundamental to universities.  The thesis is the quintessential capstone experience that allows students to explore academic areas of their most passionate interests, engage in the process of discovery, and make a creative contribution in their areas of interest and expertise.

The Honors thesis experience is supervised by a faculty adviser/mentor and Honors students also will have at least one additional committee member to assist them in their creative activities.  The thesis has writing and speaking components.  The writing component varies by the type of Honors thesis, e.g., research, design project, artistry, and/or scholarship and the length and style conforms to the accepted norms in these areas.  The speaking component consists of a 15 minute formal oral presentation by the Honors student and responses by the student to questions from the committee.

Honors students are encouraged to coordinate their Honors thesis with departmental thesis, design project, creative artistry, scholarship, and/or capstone requirements.
